Is this the right way to practice guitar?

I practice on my own off and on throughout the day. Which adds up to
3 - 6 hours a day. I've noticed I learn stuff much quicker and
efficient this way.(I've been playing for a year). However my dad
takes my stuff away and forces me to practice with him(he plays guitar
too). I wouldn't mind jamming if he didn't take my stuff and use
guitar as a disciplinary tool. It pisses me off so much. And when I
do practice with him, it discourages me from playing for the rest of
the day, even week cause practicing with him takes the fun out of
guitar. And we only play for 30 minutes. If I practice on my own I
learn a whole solo in a week, maybe day unlike playing with my dad
which takes a month+.
